Walks in 2026:
-
This walk will be organised by Gordon Parker.
This is where Archbishops built a palace to rest on their way to Canterbury, we pass the 16th century Lullingstone Castle, a roman villa and a lavender farm - it's a lovely piece of countryside.
-
This beautiful varied circular walk up small lanes, tracks and paths climbs gently up the hill ( 380 metres ) behind Lyme Park with wonderful views over the Peak District and to Manchester. At the top of the hill are some ancient Saxon crosses – the Bowstones. We then walk down through moorland and forest to the magnificent 600 year old house at Lyme where we will have a picnic lunch outside by the stable restaurant ( where refreshments can be purchased) . The walk continues up to the Cage ( a 17th century sandstone tower on a small hill ) along a ridge and back to the station .
Distance 6 miles with an option to walk 4 miles ( not climbing the hill and having more time to explore Lyme )
-
This walk will be organised by Chris Perks and Anna Sayburn.
Meeting point: We will meet at Canterbury West railway station at 10.30am and leave at 11am. The walk is approximately seven miles.
Our route: We will walk out of Canterbury via Kent University and take the Crab and Winkle Way. We will stop for lunch by the ancient St Cosmos and St Damien Church (Blean Church) and then return via Harbledown village. There are some superb views of Canterbury Cathedral, and of the pretty surrounding countryside.
We will finish the walk back at Canterbury West at around 4pm.
